Artist's Comments

I won the Sister Cities International high school art competition with this piece. I love chalk pastels- and the background news article is appropriate for this piece. Essentially, these are the hands of a relief worker, mixing milk for starving children. I think this represents love in so many different aspects; giving of oneself for the betterment of the world.

I can see why you won. This is great. The emotion is clear and strong. The background news article gives it a nice texture and fits well with the context of the piece. I love how the milk forms a heart, but you manage to make it not seem cheesy. The style of the piece really reminds me of African art.

:wow: This is amazing. It reminds me so much of my old agenda cover..I really love how you incorporated everything together so that one part doesn't outweigh the other. Great work!

Very nice. As someone already said, I like the balance between the article and the drawing. You don't see too many chalk/pastel drawings on newspaper. This piece is somewhat refreshing. :)

Thank you very much!

Yeah- the milk heart was one of the hardest parts of this piece; believe it or not 'cheesy' is specifically what I was trying to avoid.
